Migration 2009
Sun 12th April - after the rain on Saturday there were a lot of frogs
leaving the ponds at Little Melton and Great Melton but few toads were
arriving. We think that the main migration is now over.
We won't be organizing a rota any more but will ask people to check the
sites on warm damp evenings.
We have seen fewer toads than during previous years, this may be
because the populations are in decline or it may be because conditions
have been too dry and cold this year. However, we have seen
record numbers of Great Crested Newts in Little Melton.
We started to patrol in Great Melton this year and a lot of toads have
been saved there.

We report the numbers to Froglife and to the county amphibian recorder.
The migration started properly on Tuesday 24th Feb - see below for daily reports.
Mon 6th April - A message from Sarah, the Bowthorpe organizer. "Few volunteers have been called, as any movement has been early and insubstantial. If you have been called on a day you have indicated but an answer machine is recording, no message has been left. By the time the message was received the crossing would have ceased and I have no way of knowing the number of volunteers out on patrol. If we have a major crossing I will try to contact everyone, even if it is not your day so no one is missed."
