Migration 2008
We think that the main migration has now ended (31/03/2008). Toads will still be moving into and out of the pond during warm evenings and we will be helping them in Little Melton whilst we continue to find significant numbers on the road.
- 9th April - one late couple were heading for my pond - spawn was present this morning - see the photos page
- 5-6th April too cold for any movement
- 4th April - about 35 toads were leaving the pond in Little Melton - a few late couples are still arriving
- 3rd April - about 70 toads were helped in Little Melton
- 2nd April - about 35 toads were helped in Little Melton
- 1st April - about 30 toads were helped in Little Melton
- 31st March - about 20 toads were seen in Little Melton
- 30th March - about 35 toads and a few frogs were seen in Little Melton
- 29th March - around 80 toads, a few frogs, 6 common newts and 3 Gt Crested newts were helped in Little Melton. Some toads are now leavng the pond.
- 28th March - more than 60 toads, 6 common newts, 1 Gt Crested were helped in Little Melton. A hedgehog was feeding in the compost heaps.
- 27th March - a few toads were moving in Little Melton
- 22-26th March - too cold for any movement
- 21st March - 5 cold toads were found in Little Melton - some signs that the females are leaving after spawning
- 20th March - about 60 toads and many newts were saved during a very wet evening in Little Melton - there seem to be a lot of newts around this year
- 17/18th/19th March - too cold for any movement
- 16th March - about 40 toads, some frogs and several Gt Crested newts were helped in Little Melton
- 15th March - the big rush! about 300 toads (the females have turned up at last) - 30 frogs and several common and Gt Crested Newts were assisted in Little Melton. 500 toads and 50 frogs were saved in Bowthorpe.
- 13th/14th March - not much movememnt
- 12th March - no movement
- 11th March - very wet! 60 toads, 10 frogs and several newts were rescued in Little Melton. Toads were still moving and frogs singing at 23:00
- 10th March - only a few toads were moving in Little Melton as it was rather cold
- 9th March - too cold for much movement
- 8th March - about 60 toads, 10 frogs and several common newts were found in Little Melton. Mainly male toads - very few females have been seen so far.
- 7th March - too cold for much movement
- 6th March - 20 toads, several frogs and one mobile phone were rescued in Little Melton. A nice chorus of 20 frogs has been singing in the pond at about 21:00 for the last 2 nights.
- 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th March - too cold for any activity
- 29th Feb about 20 toads, 10 frogs, 1 Gt Crested and 1 common Newt were on the move in Little Melton
- 28, 27, 26 & 25th Feb - too cold for much activity
- 24th Feb - about 60 toads, 20 frogs, 1 common + 2 Gt Crested newts rescued in Little Melton. 300 toads and 30 frogs in Bowthorpe
- 23rd Feb - about 15 male toads and 2 frogs were rescued in Little Melton - not much activity in Bowthorpe
- 22nd Feb - a few male toads and frogs were on the move in Little Melton. 95 toads were assisted in Bowthorpe.
